A Civil Engineer often encounters problems of flexible footings which carry dynamic loads. In order to evaluate the response of such footing-soil systems to arbitrary loads, the dynamic characteristics of the system must be determined accurately. The general problem of such dynamical systems is very difficult and even approximate solutions to them are obtained (1) only after making simplifying assumptions.
