Prof. Vishwas A. Sawant
Prof. Vishwas A. Sawant is currently working as Professor in Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He has graduated in Civil Engineering from Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Mumbai in the year 1990. He has obtained M. Tech (Offshore Engineering) and Ph.D. (Geotechnical Engineering) from IIT Bombay in 1993 and 1998 respectively.
His areas of interest are Liquefaction, Numerical Modelling of Liquefaction, Pavement, Dynamic Analysis of Rigid pavement, Pile Foundation, Laterally Loaded Pile in Horizontal and Sloping Ground. He has published over 99 research articles in reputed international journals. He has presented his research over 06 national and international conferences. He has supervised 12 Ph.D. thesis (awarded) and currently supervising 16 (on-going). He has supervised 34 Masters Dissertations. He has completed 4 sponsored research projects and one in progress. He is so far involved in more than 50 consultancy projects from different government and public sectors.
He has received prestigious awards like IGS Biennial Award (twice, 2000 and 2020) for best paper in Indian Geotechnical Journal. He is also received Best Paper award in the Conference from NIT Jalandhar, IIT Kanpur, NIT Trichy, Sinhgad College of Engineering, Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Congress, National Conference on Innovations and Applications of Mathematical Modeling Techniques in Engineer and Indian Geotechnical Journal. He has received ‘Endevour Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Award’ from DEEWR, Australian Government (2011) and Indo-Candian Shastri Research Grant (2018).
He is visit to University of Malaysia Sarawak as Lecturer on 3 years Contract from June 2003 to June 2006 and Edith Cowan University, Australia as Australia as Post-Doctoral Fellowship for period of six months
He is a Life Member of Indian Society for Hydraulics. He is a Life Member of Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET), Indian Geotechnical Society, Mumbai Chapter, Indian Society for Construction Materials and Structures as well as Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS). Since August, 2021 he is serving as a Secretary of ISET.
