Abstract

 

In this paper ductility provisions of IS codes have been thoroughly reviewed and compared with those in American codes. The provisions needing revisions, Inclusions or clarifications have been identified. Suggestions made include rationalization of performance factor, providing of ductility detalling as per zones rather that an, Introduction of strong column-weak girder concept in design, revision of minimum reinforcement requirements, etc. A method has also been suggested for determination of plastic moment capacity for R.C. beams.
