ISET D.K. Paul Research Award

A 4-yearly award in the name of Prof. D.K. Paul, Life Fellow & Ex-President of the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET) and Former Head, Department of Earthquake Engineering, IIT Roorkee has been instituted by the Ph.D Research Scholars of Prof. D.K. Paul named as “ISET D.K. Paul Research Award for best Ph.D thesis in Earthquake Risk Reduction in India” to honour person with best Ph.D thesis. The award consists of an award money of INR 60,000/-, and a Citation. This award was instituted on March 30, 2017.

Dr. P. Pravin Kumar Venkat Rao pursued M.Tech. from VNIT Nagpur, Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and served as an International Research Intern at EPFL, Switzerland with Swiss Govt. Excellence Research Scholarship. He has received prestigious fellowships and secured the first rank in the university during his Diploma, Graduation and Post-graduation. Dr. Pravin has won several ‘National Awards’ for his academic excellence. He has also received the best ‘Thesis’ award for Bachelor’s & Master’s work from ISTE and INAE, respectively. In the recent past, he has received a promising ‘Young Engineer Award’ from IEI (India) and IAStructE for his novel contribution to research. He is presently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Earthquake Engineering Research Centre, IIIT Hyderabad, India. Dr. Pravin has authored high-quality research articles in SCI, Q1 Journals of Building Materials, Composites and Structural Engineering. He is a reviewer for many International Journals of repute. He is an active member of RILEM, France and EERI, USA. He is currently the Faculty Advisor, student chapter body of the Indian Association of Structural Engineers. Recently, Dr. Pravin has been awarded two research grants from Science and Engineering Research Board, DST and IIIT Hyderabad worth Rs. 50 Lakhs. His research area is focused on seismic safety and retrofitting of masonry structures. His developed strengthening techniques, evaluation procedures and design methodologies will be of great interest to the ‘Building Construction’ and ‘Retrofitting Industry’ in general and also beneficial to society at large in reducing the risk due to seismic hazards.

Dr. Sreevalsa Kolathayar pursued M.Tech from IIT Kanpur, Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and served as International Research Staff at UPC BarcelonaTech Spain with European Union Fellowship. He is presently serving as Associate Professor in the School of Civil Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India. Dr. Sreevalsa has authored three books, published several research articles and is a reviewer for many international journals as well as Editorial Board Member of two International Journals. He served as Chairman of Students Council at IISc and Adviser to Think India, a national forum of students from premier Institutes in India. He is currently the Secretary Indian chapter of International Association for Coastal Reservoir Research (IACRR), Executive Committee Member of Indian Institute of Science Alumni Association and on the Board of Directors at G-IntelligenceI, IIT Kanpur based start-up. Dr. Sreevalsa was featured by The New Indian Express in Edex anniversary edition in 2017 and honored with the award: 40 under 40 – South India’s Most Inspiring Young Teachers. Recently, Dr. Sreevalsa represented India at Sino-South Asian countries Disaster Risk Prevention and Reduction Forum at Chengdu, China.
