Prof. Ravi S. Jakka is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Earthquake Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, and serving as Editor of the ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology & International Journal of Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering. He graduated in Civil Engineering from Andhra University Engineering College in the year 2001. He obtained master’s and doctorate degrees from IIT Delhi in 2003 and 2007 respectively. He has received the prestigious DAAD fellowship during master’s program and National Doctoral fellowship during PhD. His areas of interest are Site Characterization, Soil Liquefaction, Seismic Slope Stability of Dams, Landslides, Foundations & Seismic Hazard Assessment. He has published over 100 articles in reputed international journals and conferences. He has supervised over 40 Masters Dissertations and 8 Ph.D. thesis, while he is currently guiding 9 PhD Thesis. He worked on various challenging problems such as dynamic behaviour of pond ash, uncertainties in surface wave methods, effect of bedrock on site amplification, deep soil effects in Indo-Gangetic basin, and came up with innovative solutions such as inclined skirted foundations, bio-inspired foundations, new site classification scheme, minimization of uncertainties in seismic site characterization, etc. He was involved in the development of the Earthquake Early Warning System for northern India, a prestigious national project. He also received ‘Young Geotechnical Engineer Best Paper Award’ from the Indian Geotechnical Society. Apart from academic and research, he has organized several short-term courses, workshops and webinars. He was also the Organizing Secretary to the 7th International Conference on Recent Advances in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering. He served as secretary to the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET) for two terms.
